Video Chat Success

Jourdan, Shashona and I just finished the video chat, and I do say it went very well.  We talked over various script issues that I need to get into and figure out, and ironed out some wrinkles.  We also had a good discussion about the characters and their backgrounds and motivations (which manifested itself mainly as me talking about myself and my own life for like twenty minutes), but I think it helped everybody get on the same page.

It was also really exciting seeing them (Shashona & Jourdan) interact, because they're both so devoted and really do care about the project which I am so appreciative of and truly honored by.  I am lucky to have them.  We also need to get Scott a macbook so that he can video chat with us next time....Scott if you're reading this, maybe when Steve gets his new one you can chat from Steve's place.

As far as scheduling, it looks like the movie just might be physically possible--but no one hold your breathe just yet.

One thing that was discussed was a line where Emily says the "f word."  It's the only swear word in the script, and it was mentioned that it felt out of place.  Swearing in movies is an interesting thing to think about for me, because it's so different in different movies.  Some movies have completely gratuitous swearing, some movies have none because they're kids movies, some have swearing to make the world seem realistic (Garden State?), and others have none and still work.  Any thoughts on swearing in movies?

Finally, as promised screen caps of our discussion.

This is us happy:

7 Days In.

We are now a week into April, and pre-production is underway.

Things that I'm working on right now:

Locking the script

Casting all the parts of the film

Securing locations

Thinking about props

Increasing my rank in Call of Duty 4

Storyboarding

etc, etc, etc.

The script is very close to being locked, and tomorrow evening I am having a discussion about the movie with Shashona and Jourdan via video chat.  (We’re using video chat because Jourdan is still in BYU and we are here in Santa Cruz---I’ll get some screen caps).  We’ll be discussing our feelings on the scripts, any changes to be made, and then scheduling out the bulk of the filming.  Alas, Jourdan and Shashona still only have met via videochat…they’ve never actually been in the same room together.  That’s partially why I’m making this movie, to see what happens if they’re in the same room together.

My money is on the world exploding.

This weekend I watched “Shortbus” at my friend (slash DP) Alex’s house.  And if you haven’t seen it…it’s quite…interesting.    My friends refused to tell me anything about it, so I knew nothing about it going into the movie…and it was quite the shock.  I won’t say anything about it so I don’t ruin it for you…but check it out, it was interesting.  I do not, however, recommend it for people who do not want to see…”extremely explicit images of intimacy” however.  It was good.

Finally, I thought I’d spice this puppy up with some pictures of the production of the Prologue, for some nifty behind-the-scenes action.  All pictures courtesy of my iPhone.
