Writing the Script
So I have created a blog, to see what happens if I do this to myself. I imagine it will probably just be venting in some form or another.
My name is Michael Tucker, I am currently a film student at the University of California at Santa Cruz, and last quarter I wrote and filmed a short film called The Prologue of Amilia Marbleberry and Marcy Stills. It came to me during my Intro to Networking class, and it tells the story of a girl, Amilia Marbleberry (people call her Emily), who is depressed, alone, and also has OCD.
Emily has been struggling in life for quite awhile, and ultimately she finds the only thing that could possibly help her is seeking out her only remaining friend in the world--Marcy Stills--who she has not seen since she moved away in the 7th grade. Emily leaves home and travels to Marcy after ten years of not speaking in hopes of finding something that could make her happy again.
The Prologue ends with Emily deciding to take the trip, and with a glimpse of Emily arrive at Marcy's.
The Reunion of Amilia Marbleberry and Marcy Stills tells the story of what happens when these two friends from a decade ago meet again.
I am currently in the writing process of the film, though it will be moving into production shortly. I'm writing the script, and I'm finding it fairly difficult to find the right tone and style for the story. I've been getting help from friends and fellow filmmakers, and I feel like the script will be ready shortly. It has to be...because I have to submit the screenplay on Monday in order to get into my final film class.
I'm going to introduce some people that will surely be mentioned, we'll start with just a few for now.
Jourdan Lance - a good friend of mine since high school, we've made a number of movies in our years of knowing each other. She goes to BYU, and she will be playing the part of Marcy Stills in the movie.
Shashona Brooks - another good friend of mine, we met in Santa Cruz and she was nice enough to be in the first movie I made for a production class here. She's been in everything I've made ever since, and she will be continuing her role as Emily Marbleberry.
Scott Marden - he also went to high school with Jourdan and myself, and he too has been in a number of my movies. He graduated from the University of Southern Oregon last year, and he will be playing the role of Andrew Stills, Marcy's brother.
Alex Calleros - a fellow film student, we became friends through mutual respect for each other's work and numerous revelations that we're basically the same person. (We are eerily similar, more on that later). Last quarter we were each others' DPs, and we plan to be again on both our projects this coming quarter.
I should mention that everyone listed above is *EXTREMELEY* talented.
There are many, many more characters to come for sure. And depending on how into this whole "blogging" thing, I'm sure there will be many discussions about filmmaking in general, specific movies, and knowing my life--lots of drama.
Enjoy,
~Michael
